Before I start, I just want to say I do not mean to cause any offence to anyone.
I was chatting to some people about our music, and I was told that someone said we should try not to fit in as many notes as we can into the songs that we play. These comments were made after the BotB at UniS, where we played Hand Of Blood (BFMV) and Red Is The New Black (FFAF), and the riffs in that are fairly complex. Bare in mind that these are very successful songs, as many people like them. Now I can see where some people are coming from where they say if a song is too complex listeners may get confused, but take out the riffs and the song would not nearly be as successful, and would be less fun to play and listen to. People may have their own opinions, but I think that trying to get a band to play 'what people want to hear' is just unfair. Look at Metallica, for instance, or any rock band of that era. Most of their songs were filled with complex riffs, and they are all millionaires, because people liked and bought their records. Again, I can appreciate that people have their own opinions, but I also have one. Why not stop and think 'maybe some people actually like complex riffs'. And as for the screaming thing that many people have commented on, some people may not like it, but again stop and think SOME PEOPLE DO!! What we are trying to do may not be the conventional way to approach music, with a verse chorus verse chorus structure, but we are not trying to conquer the world like The Darkness. We just want to play the music we like. We are only teenagers, so it's not like we are going to land a record deal any time soon, so for now we are just going to play what we enjoy and not try and break any boundaries as no-one really important is likely to hear it. Anyone that says that we should stick to the traditional 'verse chrous' structure and then goes and says that we should be original at the same time is being a bit contradictory in my opinion.
Anyway now I've got that off my chest. Any comments feel free to send them my way.
